Several Banglamung area migrant workers camps were raided early this morning due to growing concerns over the Covid-19 situation in Myanmar. Meanwhile, three undocumented Myanmar workers without proof of a work permit or proper visa were arrested while another reportedly tested positive for illegal drug usage.
The crackdown in the Nong Plalai sub-district started at 5:30 AM was led by the Banglamung District Chief Amnart Jaroensri, the Banglamung Police Chief Colonel Pattanachai Pamornpiboon and the Banglamung Public Health Office Chief Somphon Jittirueangkiet. About ninety officials joined in the crackdown.
The Banglamung District Chief told The Pattaya News, “There are many Myanmar workers from other nearby areas who are coming to Huayyai and Banglamung and we are concerned that some may have crossed the border to enter Thailand without the proper legal permission. With the current dire situation with the Covid-19 virus in Myanmar we decided to ensure that workers in the Chonburi area have their proper documentation together.â€
“In total, 78 migrant workers were inspected for proper documentation and drug usage. However, three of them are failed to present their documents while one has been tested positive with drugs. †Amnart told The Pattaya News, without elaborating on what drug the migrant worker tested positive for.
Amnart stated that officials will continue to follow up on Covid-19 measurements to protect Chonburi and Thailand from the Covid-19 virus. Chonburi has gone nearly six months without a single confirmed locally spread case of the Covid-19 virus.
